Transportation

The State Archives holds records documenting many aspects of the State and local highway systems, canal system, major ports, and public transportation organizations. Thousands of cubic feet of records document construction, financing, maintenance, and two enlargements of the Erie Canal system, 1817-1918.  Modern highway development is represented in Thruway publicity materials and Department of Public Works correspondence files, 1943-1967.
