The New York State Archives and the Archives Partnership Trust have selected the Town of Hamburg to receive the 2015 Cheryl Steinbach Annual Archives Award for Excellence in Local Government Records Management. This award is named for the late Cheryl Steinbach, Chautauqua Town Clerk, who was a strong advocate for strengthening local government archival and records management programs.
The award was presented to Town Clerk and Records Management Officer Catherine Rybczynski at a luncheon ceremony at the Cultural Education Center in Albany, held recently.
This award recognizes the leadership role the Town of Hamburg has taken in the economical and effective management of its records, which includes the development of a modern records center, and the decision to share the records center with the Village of Hamburg, the Village of Blasdell, and Hamburg Central School District. This award also acknowledges the shared services arrangement that makes this partnership work, including: governance by an Administrative Committee comprised of records management officers from each local government; establishment of a shared locator system; and the development of policies and procedures to manage inactive records, scanning building permits, and other functions.
“We are pleased to recognize the Town of Hamburg for their outstanding efforts to manage and preserve the records of local government,” said Interim State Archivist Thomas J. Ruller. “We commend all involved in this winning program and wish them continued success in the years ahead.”
The annual Archives Awards program takes place every October, during American Archives Month, and recognizes outstanding efforts in archives and records management work in New York State by a broad range of individuals and organizations.
